Assessment

Formative Assessment

Teachers make careful and skilled use of Assessment for Learning strategies in order to assess children's progress on a day-to-day basis. Feedback is provided to pupils on a regular basis. As much as possible, this is done verbally in lessons so children are able to act on this feedback in the moment. Written comments may also provide feedback at the end of a task.

Summative Assessment

Assessments in Reading, Mathematics and GPS are carried out on a termly basis to assess children's progress. We use nationally recognised and tested assessment materials. Thorough analysis is conducted in order to identify individual and collective areas for development going forward.

Self Assessment and Peer Assessment

Teachers encourage children to assess their own work and that of their peers against agreed 'Success Criteria'. This encourages children to take ownership of their own learning and motivates and inspires them to achieve their best and to develop positive attitudes to future learning.

National Assessments

Children undertake the following national assessments:

  • Reception Baseline Assessment
  • Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
  • Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check
  • Year 6 End of Key Stage 2 SATs (Reading, Mathematics and GPS). Please be aware that teacher assessment judgements are also made for Writing and Science and these are reported to the Local Authority.

Parent Consultations

Two Parent Consultation meetings are held per year to discuss children's progress against attainment targets.

A written report is shared with parents at the end of each term.

Informal consultations may take place at other times.
